Summer Love

Summer means different things to different people. For some it means the kids are out of school and off to summer camp, for others it means time with family and friends on trips to the cabin or the beach, or it could mean long afternoons with sweet tea on a porch swing, and sultry evenings with a cocktail watching the fireflies.

If you have followed me for any length of time you know that Fall and Winter are "my seasons" but I do enjoy summer too...just not the incessant heat and humidity.

To me summer is...

Time at the beach

potato salad

swimming pool

beach reads

the smell of sun tan lotion
cotton candy
4th of July

corn on the cob

What does Summer mean to you?

Enjoy your summer day!

  1. Love your list....mine is similar but need to add in road trips (which I love in summer) lacrosse tournaments, lobster rolls, Montauk, lazy days, catching up on reading, good movies, frequent trips to farm stands..I am with you on the heat and humidity but on a perfect summer day.....its hard to beat!

  2. Elizabeth, Your post is a beautiful description of summer. We have been blessed with, at least, pleasant morning this year so far. I will most definitely check out Ravinia, as we have a quick weekend planned in Chicago. My list would include lazy mornings with the crossword puzzle, the farmer's market and making jams. Enjoy your day!

  3. Elizabeth, dear friend, you have captured Summer perfectly with this list...can you believe 4th of July is right around the corner? How are you?
I love the free feeling of this time of year, but like you, I sometimes wish for Winter in the midst of high heat and humidity....
As you know, in MN, it is a treat to visit a farmer's I love that!
Off to catch up with your posts, my dear...
    Wishing you a splendid week!
    Much love,
    - Irina

  4. Hi Elizabeth,

What a great list and I think we have a few things in common on our lists:) I always enjoy the laid back vibe.. a little less traffic and (when the kids were little) pajama days! Beach/lake time, boating, watermelon, grilling outside, al fresco dining, the smell of grass that's being mowed (weird, right?) and flip flops! We are waiting for the rain to stop in the PNW.. soon we will all be enjoying some warm weather:)

  5. Some wonderful reminders of summer here Elizabeth. Looking like its not going to happen here in the UK though, just the odd nice day as usual.
    Keep well!

  6. Beloved friend,

We just drove back yesterday from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin....what a most STUNNING PLACE. We experienced summer at its best there. We were in a wedding, we had such a beautiful setting to have the ceremony, but the drive back yesterday was dangerous. I am just glad to be back home to celebrate summer chez MOI!

    Be well sweet friend, Anita

  7. Summer means to me finally being able to walk across grass and no snow! Finally being able to stick my hands in dirt and garden. Finally being able to wear less clothing and go barefooted. When you get the amount of snow and cold we get summer is well loved! Enjoy your summer Elizabeth!

  8. Quite a list, Elizabeth!

Admittedly, for me, I rather prefer winter...
